My clunker

That Jeep is awesome! I kind of like the slotted wheels, but if you want to go more original I get that too. Were those a 3 or 4 speed?
3 speed, non synchro first gear, 5.38 differential gears, 2 stick transfer case (one stick for the range, one for the front drive engagement)

No hubs, just drive flanges.

It'll do 56-58, but it's stressed! I rebuilt the carb, adjusted the valves, rewired the vitals, etc.

It's a back roads only vehicle! Comfortable cruising speed is about 45.

Oh yeah, no turn signals! Just my hand signals.

Nice jeep, my dad had a 46 Willys (4 banger) that I learn to drive with, later he sold it and bought another Willys jeep with a Buick V8. That one scared the crap out me.
I can imagine, a stock Willys is a well engineered package, with the drivetrain and brakes. It's good for 50 mph.

throw more power into one, and you better at least have some 11 in drums that self adjust, and some wider axles.

Even at 25-30, mine scares me with the body roll sometimes!

I've had mine at 80 on the interstate, but I don't feel comfortable at that speed.
Short wheelbase vehicles are like that. I had a samurai with a 1.6 out of a tracker (oh boy, big block, lol!), It had a Weber carb, and a thorley header. I regeared the transfer case with a rocky road kit to get the high and low range way down, because I had a spring over lift on it, and 33 inch swampers.

I have no doubt it would have gone a solid 70+!

I never had it in me to take it that fast....

Right , that bucked like crazy so I never drank my coffee in it , learned that day one .
Cant drink anything, can't hear the radio, can't keep up with traffic, etc, lol....

I like mine, and it's dead nuts reliable, but I'm not 20 anymore.its very scary to get on a high speed 2 lane highway. It's secondary roads preferably.

I've definitely thought about selling it to fund a tire and king shocks/uniball upper control arm upgrade for my Sequoia.

If I was in Arizona, Utah, or the upper peninsula of Michigan, I wouldn't be saying that.....
